Amit Basu

Amit Basu is the Carr P. Collins Chair of Management Information Sciences at the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He is also the Chairman of the Information Technology and Operations Management department at the school, and as a member of the Steering Committee of the Hart eCenter at SMU. Professor Basu has also served on the faculties of the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, the University of Maryland at College Park (both at the Maryland Business School and the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies), and as a visiting professor at INSEAD (France), the Vlerick Management School in Belgium and the Indian Institute of Management. He received his Ph.D. in Computers and Information Systems from the University of Rochester, his M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University, and his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.

Professor Basu’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of knowledge and data base systems, decision support systems, digital strategy, electronic commerce and workflow management. He has published technical papers on these topics in a variety of leading publications, including major academic journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Management Information Systems and Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, technical and management professional journals such as the Sloan Management Review, IEEE Computer Omega and the Wall Street Journal, as well as the proceedings of many international conferences. He has also served on the organizing committees and program committees for several international conferences. He has served as the program chair for the International Conference on Telecommunications and Electronic Commerce (ICTEC), and for the 2002 Workshop on Information Technology and Systems (WITS). He has served on the editorial boards of several leading academic journals – he has been the Area Editor for knowledge and data management at the INFORMS Journal on Computing, and Associate Editor for Management Science, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, Information Systems Research, Electronic Commerce Research, the Information Technology and Management Journal, BISE (the German Journal of Information Systems) and Telecommunication Systems, and an Editorial Board Member for the POMS Journal. He also was the founding editor of the Information Technology and Systems Abstracts journal at the Social Science Research Network (SSRN). From 2012-2014, he served as the President of the INFORMS Information Systems Society.
